Meet the tintypist
Russell James.
Silver-stained hands.
I’m a photographer and photography educator, and the person behind Silver Stained Tintypes.
I make portraits using the wet-plate collodion process: hand-coating a plate, making the exposure, and developing the image while the plate is still wet. The process asks us to slow down and make something together.
Based in Cartersville, Georgia, I bring the studio to portrait sittings, festivals, and events. Whether it is your first tintype or a new addition to your collection, I want you to leave with something that feels unmistakably yours.
