The plate
Each portrait begins with a metal plate, coated by hand with collodion.
The wet-plate collodion process
Your photograph is an object, not just a file. The poured edges and small variations are part of how it was made.
Each portrait begins with a metal plate, coated by hand with collodion.
The coated plate is sensitized in a silver bath, then loaded into the camera while still wet.
We compose your portrait and make the exposure. Holding still becomes part of the experience.
The plate is developed and fixed, revealing your photograph. It is then washed, dried, and finished.
